Winners & Losers from Pinellas’ elections

in Peter/The Bay and the 'Burg by

Today’s city commissioner is tomorrow’s state legislator. And today’s state legislator is tomorrow’s congressional candidate. Or so I’ve always thought and that’s why I always pay attention to the results of even the smallest town’s municipal elections. Yesterday’s slate of elections in Pinellas County certainly provided a list of winners and losers and I’m not just talking about the candidates. Here is my list of who won and who lost as a result of Pinellas’ municipal elections. Winners: The most…

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

The City of St. Petersburg could save as much as $276,509 if it scheduled its municipal elections in conjunction with the county’s, which are held on even-number years. Times’ editorial wrong on mail-in voting

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

There is a mis-editorial in today’s Times claiming that early, mail-in voting is causing frustration in several municipal elections in Pinellas County: Some candidates were surprised, too. Local election campaigns don’t typically kick into high gear until about six weeks before Election Day. But in mid January candidates started hearing from residents who had ballots and were frustrated that they had seen no information about the people running for office. Candidates scrambled to try to connect with those voters, and…
