Israel fumbles goodwill visit of NFL players

in Sports/Top Headlines by

It was supposed to be a feel-good visit by a group of professional football players to give a boost to image-conscious Israel. But in an embarrassing fumble by the Israeli government, only five of 11 NFL players in the delegation showed up after being blitzed by Palestinian activists opposed to the visit. Israel’s ministry for strategic affairs and public diplomacy issued a press release after the Super Bowl boasting that the visit would bring “influencers” who would serve as “goodwill…

Jax Jaguars outgunned: At 4-8, season done?

in Sports/Top Headlines by

The 4-7 Jacksonville Jaguars needed a win against last place Tennessee on Sunday. And so did Coach Gus Bradley. According to a chart put out by fivethirtyeight.com, Coach Bradley is (barring a turnaround) the second most likely coach in the NFL to get axed at the end of the year. If you’ve got Carolina tight end Greg Olsen, congratulations. You should have a pretty good edge in your fantasy lineups this week. Everyone else, well, be prepared: It could be ugly at the position. Top-scoring tight end Rob Gronkowski looks likely to miss this week’s game against Philadelphia with a bruised knee, while No. 2 scorer Tyler Eifert – with an NFL-best 12 touchdown catches – is dicey because of a neck issue. And while he hasn’t had his typical…

The offensive players, specifically Blake Bortles and his targets, have catalyzed many fantasy football teams toward playoff runs. Which is great; there have been years where that couldn’t have been said. The Jaguars, however, are two games off…

For Cardiac Cats, “all gold everything” means a win

in Sports/Top Headlines by

On “All Gold Everything” Thursday night, the Jacksonville Jaguars needed a big win against AFC South rivals the Tennessee Titans. And got it. But damned if they didn’t have to work for it. Marcus Mariota came out firing for the road squad, getting the Titans near the Jags’ 30 on the first drive, throwing darts, and getting Tennessee in range for a 47 yard FG from reliable veteran Ryan Succop. Blake Bortles, down 3-0, went three and out and on his…
