in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

If you run a noisy bar downtown, prepare to start closing your doors after midnight – 11 if it’s a weeknight. Literally closing the door, not closing in general. Sound absurd? It’s not, really. In an effort to deal with burdensome and frequent noise complaints in the burgeoning downtown St. Pete nightlife scene, City Council member Karl Nurse is asking his colleagues to collaborate on a plan. Imagine four years from now, when the Rays, frustrated by Kathleen Ford’s efforts to prevent the baseball team from building a new stadium, are wooed by out-of-town interests, such as Las Vegas’ Steve Wynn,…

Parking meter assaulted in St. Pete!

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

On my way to visit the effervescent Marissa, the hostess at Z-Grille, my friend and I stumbled upon the first victim in the coming revolt against the new parking rules in downtown St. Petersburg. The victim was found unconscious on the sidewalk, its assailants unknown, although the usual suspects have already been detained.

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

News is breaking this evening that two days after he took over BayWalk, interim property manager Howard Rosenthal was arrested Thursday by Pinellas Sheriff’s detectives accused of stealing almost $171,000 from his former company, Colliers Arnold of Clearwater. This is yet another black eye on one of the most important parts of downtown St. Pete. I could make the argument that it was the development of Baywalk, more than any other effort, that has led to the revitalization of downtown…
