Report: Hillary Clinton’s lead becoming safer as Election Day nears

in 2017 by

Hillary Clinton’s lead is becoming safer, as the share of undecided voters and voters not supporting a major-party candidate shrinks. Harry Enten with FiveThirtyEight reported Thursday that people backing Clinton and Donald Trump now account for slightly more than 84 percent of the vote. That, Enten reported, is the highest their combined share has been since the website began issuing forecasts in June. The site points out there “hasn’t been a huge change, but it’s meaningful.” With just a month…

Which MLB teams were the best and worst of all time?

in Sports by

For years debates have raged about which major league baseball team was the best of all time. Was it the 1927 Yankees, or 1961 Yankees? Maybe the 1976 Reds? If the rankings would include all teams, where would the pennant-winning 2008 Rays fit into all of this? Do either of Miami’s World Series-winning teams of 1997 and 2003 have a place? Thanks to Nate Silver and his team at FiveThirtyEight, we have some answers. According to the Elo rating system,…

Today on Context Florida: Greg Evers, loving Hispanics, demagogues and the ‘real America’

in Apolitical/Top Headlines by

Today on Context Florida: Peter Schorsch asks: How many times can Department of Corrections officials tick off Greg Evers before they’re really in for it? Mr. Silver, a statistical wizard, became a media star during the last presidential election season for his political projections based on dissections of polling data. He retains all rights to FiveThirtyEight and will continue to run it himself, but “under the banner and auspices of NYTimes.com,” The Times said in…

This post brought to you by poker

in Peter by

I had to sell off my seat to the World Series of Poker, but if I hadn’t I would have written something like this…good luck Nate! I’ll be boarding a plane in the next few minutes headed to Las Vegas, where I’ll be for the next several days to conduct some research (yes, really!) for my book and to play in the World Series of Poker. I haven’t played cards for 18 months or so, should you probably be happy…
