PSC/Duke Energy bill teed up for Senate vote after amendment withdrawn

A Senate bill amendment to bar legislators from serving on the Public Service Commission within two years of leaving office was withdrawn on Thursday. Stat Sen. John Legg, a Republican from Lutz, had filed the amendment to SB 288, a PSC bill that was brought up on second reading Thursday. The amendment was withdrawn because of a likely rule challenge because the language is contained in another bill SB 170, Legg said. The bill was never heard in a committee.…

Solar amendment backers say they’ve collected enough signatures for Supreme Court review

Backers of a solar energy ballot initiative said Tuesday theyโ€™ve collected enough petition signatures to have the measure reviewed by the Florida Supreme Court. Floridians for Solar Choice says it wants to encourage solar energy production with a constitutional amendment that would prohibit governments or utilities from placing barriers on the sale or distribution of the power. A House subcommittee unanimously voted to file a Public Service Commission committee bill after rejecting a series of amendments that included repealing a charge allowed for proposed new nuclear plants.
