in Sports/Top Headlines by

Dalvin Cook must be getting used to the recognition. Once again, the Sunshine State Award is his. Cook, the FSU running back who shattered the school’s all-time record last week against Syracuse, has won this honor several times. His 225, four-touchdown performance against the Orangemen is only the latest. Cook faces a difficult week this week against the Florida Gators in what may be his final home game for the Seminoles. Other players considered for the honor include: FSU quarterback…

The wildest season in USF history continued in Dallas Saturday night with another close victory. For the high-scoring, high-scoring-against Bulls, the 35-27 victory over SMU was the team’s third straight narrow victory (after touchdown wins against Navy and Memphis). The win allowed USF to go to 9-2, which ties a school record for victories. USF still has a shot at the American Conference game if it can beat UCF next week and have Eastern Carolina upset Temple. SMU will try to stop Quinton Flowers the way they stopped Ward

in Sports/Top Headlines by

Five things to ponder about the USF–SMU game: 1. Could this be a game where USF stubs its toe? It’s possible. All you have to do is look back a month to SMU’s stunning 38-16 win over Houston, then the No. 11 team in the nation. Houston came in looking bulletproof, but quarterback Greg Ward had a hard time getting going. It could happen again if USF doesn’t match SMU’s energy early on. In that game, SMU scored the first…

On the season, Flowers is one of two players in the nation with 2,000 yards passing and 1,000 rushing. He is 12th in the nation in rushing and 48th in passing. For his efforts, Flowers…

With 1:23 to play, Memphis moved inside the Bulls’ 10 with a first-and-goal. On first down, Darrell Henderson ran for five yards to the Bulls’ three. But USF broke up three straight…

USF takes big lead in conference game, holds on to beat Navy

It started out as a stroll in the park. Then USF almost got mugged. For much of Friday night, the Bulls looked as if they were on their way to an impressive victory over American Conference foe Navy.
