He was supposed to be hurt. His team was supposed to play around him.

And yet, just like most weeks, Quinton Flowers ran wild.

Flowers combined for 395 yards Friday night to lead USF to a 52-45 win over the previously 22nd-ranked Midshipmen. Flowers passed for 219 yards and ran for 176. He accounted for four touchdowns.

Flowers has been named as this week’s Sunshine State Award winner.

Other players considered for the honor included: Central Florida’s Tre’Quan Smith (who caught 13 passes for 137 yards in a loss to Houston), FSU’s Deondre Francois (who threw for 286 yards in a loss to Clemson), FSU’s Dalvin Cook (who ran for 169 yards), Florida’s Jordan Scarlett (who ran for 93 yards in a win over Georgia), Miami’s Brad Kaaya (who threw for 288 yards in a loss to Notre Dame), and FIU’s Alex McGough (who threw for 307 yards in a loss to Middle Tennessee).

This week, FSU plays at N.C. State, Florida plays at Arkansas, Miami plays Pitt, UCF is home against Tulane, FIU at Western Kentucky, and FAU at Rice.
