Charlie Crist addresses Broward REC

in Statewide by

Last night, Governor Charlie Crist visited the Broward Republican Executive Committee meeting in Ft. Lauderdale. He was there to give a speech intended to end his losing streak in REC straw polls. The governor’s 0-15 record in straw polls must be of concern to a politician that’s used to winning on his popularity with voters, regardless of political affiliation. These loses must be especially troubling, since the governor is losing among his party’s grassroots. If Crist loses the August primary…

From Red State: Behold Florida’s new Senator. He is Charlie Crist’s errand boy. George LeMieux is undecided on government run healthcare and he supports Barack Obama’s stimulus plan. He has taken his first act as a Senator: he blocked a plan to allow drilling off the Florida coast. Charlie Crist’s errand boy continues doing Charlie’s errands. Do we want LeMieux’s keeper in the Senate? Heck no. Support (Marco) Rubio.

Human Events: The Other George LeMieux

From Human Events: Florida Gov. Charles Crist’s appointment of his closest political associate, unknown George Lemieux, to the Senate may cause some harm to Crist’s own bid for the same Senate seat next year. Two weeks ago Crist made the appointment to fill out the remaining sixteen months of the term of fellow Republican Mel Martinez (who had resigned his Senate seat) the warning signs are clearly in sight. At first, supporters of the moderate Crist’s primary opponent, former Florida…

From the West Coast to the East Coast, in some of the smallest and largest…

Marco Rubio: It’s fair to ask questions about Charlie Crist pick

in Statewide by

Florida Republican and U.S. Senate candidate Marco Rubio spoke to NRO about Gov. Charlie Crist’s pick of attorney George LeMieux to serve the remainder of retiring senator Mel Martinez’s term: George LeMieux is a very successful political operative, as well as a successful and effective lobbyist. Plus, he’s the governor’s best friend, but that’s not the criteria we’re looking for in the next U.S. Senator from Florida. What Republicans want is someone to go to Washington and stand up to…

Wall Street Journal blasts Charlie Crist’s pick of George LeMieux as ‘Cronyism’

in Statewide by

From the Wall Street Journal: Democrats have embarrassed themselves by naming political buddies to replace Joe Biden and Barack Obama in the Senate, and now a Republican is showing he can do the same. On Friday, Florida Governor Charlie Crist picked a long-time aide and political consultant to fill his state’s soon-to-be-vacant U.S. Senate seat, presumably as a placeholder until Mr. Crist can win the job himself in November 2010. The Florida vacancy is due to the strange decision by…

Let’s just say Charlie Crist is an editorial writer’s dream… St. Petersburg Times – Crist serves himself, not state, with appointment: Gov. Charlie Crist could have appointed a former congressman, a former legislator, a former Jacksonville mayor, a former state attorney general, or even a former U.S. attorney to the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Mel Martinez. Instead, the governor chose his alter ego to keep the seat warm for 16 months as he campaigns for it. He might…
