Gulfport police chief’s cruiser stolen from driveway

Thieves recently stole the Gulfport police chief’s cruiser from the driveway of his home in St. Petersburg. St. Petersburg police spokesman Mike Puetz says Chief Robert Vincent parked his 2014 Dodge Charger outside his home on Nov. 22. The next morning it was gone. The Tampa Tribune reports the car was recovered about an hour after the chief reported it missing. A laptop computer was missing. Police say Vincent’s wife’s car was also was ransacked. According to sources close to the Gulfport elections, community activist April Thanos is seriously considering running against the two-term incumbent. St. Pete says Clam Bayou is clean; Gulfport council member disagrees

St. Pete is discontinuing water sampling in areas where wastewater overflow was released in early August as a result of a heavy rain event. According to the city, all of the affected areas have been tested within Safe Beach criteria for at least one week. Gulfport residents and city officials weren’t happy with the City of St. Petersburg in early August when the city dumped 15 million gallons of untreated sewage into Clam Bayou resulting in Gulfport’s beach being shutdown due to unsafe contamination levels in Boca Ciega Bay.
