Pam Bondi wins straw poll of Florida Federation of Young Republicans

in Statewide by

Pam Bondi won another straw poll in the race for attorney general. The Florida Federation of Young Republicans conducted this most recent poll, which was closely contested, with Pam Bondi winning with 35 votes while Lt. Gov. Jeff Kottkamp received 34 votes. A third candidate received 18 votes. “Despite the Lt. Governor’s statewide profile, this straw poll reinforces what we are seeing throughout the state and country,” said Bondi consultant Brett Doster. “Republican voters are frustrated by the status quo.…

The Florida Police Benevolent Association (PBA) continued its endorsements today, announcing that it was backing Lt. Gov. Jeff Kottkamp for attorney general. As Kevin Derby notes, With more than 36,000 members, the PBA could be a big factor in a tight Republican primary as Kottkamp faces challenges from Pam Bondi and Holly Benson. “Lieutenant Governor Kottkamp has stood strong with law enforcement and correctional officers throughout Florida,” said PBA President John Rivera. “Because of that long-term support of fighting for…

Video: Pam Bondi becomes ‘a deer in the headlights’ when asked about her vote on 2008’s Amendment 1

in Peter/Statewide by

Until yesterday, I believed Pam Bondi was the GOP’s best choice for Attorney General.  But her performance at the Tiger Bay has me — and anyone else who was in the room — questioning her capacity to even do the job.  Just watch her answer to the first question of the debate: Question: I would like to know did you vote for or against Amendment 1 in January of 2008? Why didn’t Pam Bondi answer questions today about 2008 Amendment 1 campaign? Because she didn’t bother to vote in that election

in Statewide/The Bay and the 'Burg by

At this afternoon’s Tiger Bay debate between the GOP aspirants for attorney general, candidate Pam Bondi was asked directly by political consultant Dave Zachem about how she voted in January 2008 on the much-discussed Amendment 1 ballot initiative (which doubled the homestead exemption for almost all Florida homeowners). This initiative was championed by Gov. Charlie Crist, who promised property taxes would “drop like a rock.”  With all of the money spent in support of Amendment 1, you would have had to been living…

GOP candidates for attorney general coming to Tiger Bay on Thursday

in Statewide/The Bay and the 'Burg by

In late March the two Democratic candidates for attorney general joined us.  Now it’s the Republicans’ turn, and all four announced candidates will converge on the Tigers’ Den for a debate/joint appearance.  They are (in alphabetical order): Holly Benson, a three-term legislator from Pensacola and twice an agency head in the Crist administration. Pam Bondi, an assistant state attorney and criminal prosecutor in Tampa.  Her high-profile cases have made her a frequent guest on cable television, and she is known…
