in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

A St. Pete Polls survey released this morning shows Republican Dana Young with a six-point lead over her Democratic challenger, Bob Buesing, 38 percent to 32 percent. Independent candidate Joe Redner is in third place with 16 percent. Sheldon Upthegrove is at 3 percent, and 11 percent are undecided. A survey taken earlier this summer showed Young and Buesing essentially tied, but that poll did not ask voters about Redner. Although Redner has run many times for office, he’s actually…

Happy Columbus Day, for those few of you who actually get to observe (i.e. take off) the federal holiday. And a simple request today? Can we just end this sad presidential election now and not wait the remaining 29 days? Well, hardly anyone has voted, so that won’t work. Nevertheless, that presidential debate Sunday night — specifically the first 30 minutes, were unbelievably sad and depressing. Exciting? Yeah, like waiting for a car crash to happen. Okay, where is this race…

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

In his latest campaign television ad, independent Joe Redner is mocking Republican Dana Young’s own campaign spots. “My opponent likes to talk about puppies,” begins the ad, which then cuts to Young’s much talked about campaign spot featuring cute puppies. “Puppy ads are great,” Redner says. “It tells you what Dana Young can do when she’s not being paid off by the special interests.” The ad then cuts to the climax of another Young ad where she stares into the camera and asks, “Has government…

In his speech to the weekly “Cafe Con Tampa” breakfast gathering in South Tampa Friday, independent state Senate candidate Joe Redner said, if elected, he would introduce the most ambitious environmental legislation the state has ever seen. The iconoclastic businessman and activist offered other policy prescriptions if elected, but when asked if he would be able to change…

Since his selection to be Donald Trump’s running mate back in July, it’s been downright amusing at times to watch Mike Pence have to answer for his new boss while being asked about his latest outrageous comment. “Torturous” might be the best term to explain some of the responses he’s had to come up with to defend or deflect the latest comment by the GOP standard bearer. Sure, Katrina Pierson and Jeffrey Lord have lost their dignity at times on cable news, but Pence is the…

In SD 18 race, Dana Young faces the toughest challenge of her political career

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

After it was revealed last month that Mosaic had withheld information for weeks about the massive sinkhole at their New Wales facility in Polk County which spilled 215 million gallons of contaminated water into the Florida aquifer, the Conservation Florida Voters attacked Dana Young for receiving campaign contributions from the phosphate corporation — and the fact that it’s vice president of public affairs co-hosted a fundraiser for her last year. “Rep. Dana Young’s environmental record is as dirty as her campaign contributions,” said Jonathan Webber, deputy…

Joe Redner’s ‘not for sale’ in his first ad in the SD 18 race

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

Local television stations in Tampa are now airing Joe Redner’s first ad in his independent bid to win the state Senate District 18 race. The ad begins with the adult club entrepreneur referring to his successes in his business career and as an activist. It then segues into him talking about his concern that Florida’s environment “is under assault from corporate interests that have the Legislature in their pocket,” as the ad shows clips of the massive sinkhole at Mosaic’s facility in Mulberry and the poison algae…
