Pinellas Commissioner John Morroni to undergo medical treatment

Pinellas County Commissioner John Morroni announced Tuesday he will be undergoing treatment for a rare blood disorder known as secondary myelodysplastic syndrome, or MDS. Morroni will be hospitalized for treatment at Moffitt Cancer Center, but will continue to receive briefings from the county administrator on a weekly basis. “I am very confident in the excellent medical team at Moffitt and I appreciate the prayers of support and words of encouragement,” Morroni said. Developer wins $16.5 million judgment against Pinellas County

A circuit judge ruled Wednesday that Pinellas County commissioner intentionally denied a developer its constitutional rights by failing to grant a proposed zoning and land use change. Now, the county must pay $16.5 million in lost profits and interest to the Richman Group of Florida. The county must also pay attorneys’ fees to Ed Armstrong and Scott McLaren of the Clearwater firm Hill Ward Henderson for representing Richman in the lawsuit. Pinellas County grants partial property tax exemption to five historic properties in St. Petersburg

Pinellas commissioners on Tuesday unanimously granted waivers of some property taxes for ten years on five historic properties in St. Petersburg. Officials estimate the county is foregoing $49,301 in property taxes during the ten years on all properties. St. Petersburg, which also is waiving property taxes earmarked for the city, would be giving up about $62,343 in ad valorem taxes over the ten years.
