Anthony Holloway would consider gun cameras for St. Pete officers

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

St. Pete Police Chief Anthony Holloway would consider putting cameras on his officers if he could purchase ones that were mounted on officers’ guns. That way, video would start anytime an officer unholstered his/her weapon. “If I pull my weapon than it’s recorded and you’ll see everything that happened,” Holloway said during a City Council update Monday afternoon. “That solves the privacy issues.” Holloway was referring to his stance on body cameras in which he frequently sites concerns that victims’…

St. Pete City Council member Wengay Newton’s plan to shift Tropicana Field into the Southside Community Redevelopment Area in order to bring in more funds for poor communities went down in a pile of flames during a council meeting Thursday night. in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

St. Pete City Council unanimously approved a runway extension feasibility study for downtown’s Albert Whitted Airport. But the measure came with some lackluster support. The $50,000 study would be funded largely through a state grant with City Council kicking in just $10,000. The study itself would take just about four months or so and would then require approval from Federal Aviation Agency to begin a much more lengthy environmental assessment. And that’s where the waters get murky. Council member Steve Kornell…

In what was expected to be a close race, Wheeler-Brown walked away with a whopping 58 percent of the vote compared with Will Newton’s 42 percent.
