Despite court ruling, Hillsborough PTC agents will continue to cite Uber drivers

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

Despite a court ruling that rejected their request that could have prevented Uber from operating in Hillsborough County, the Public Transportation Commission agreed today that they could continue to issue citations against Uber (and Lyft) drivers. “It is our opinion that there is nothing in Judge Huey’s order that prevents the PTC from continuing its enforcement actions against Uber,  should the commission decide to take that action,” PTC attorney Cindy Oster told the board. “Currently our director has been enforcing our rules and regs…

Mitch Perry Report for 8.11.15 — Will Rick Perry be the first one off the GOP island?

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

First of all, let me give a public welcome to the newest addition to the Florida Politics/SaintPetersBlog family, James Rosica, late of the Tampa Tribune. I am looking forward to reading his reports. The advent of the super PACS, we’ve been told, will keep presidential candidates around a lot longer than before, since there’s a separate venue for fundraising. The idea is that a few rich millionaires can singlehandedly keep a candidate alive. We’re about to see if that’s going to work…

Hillsborough PTC head emphasizes he doesn’t want Uber to leave Tampa

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

Hillsborough County Public Transportation Commission executive director Kyle Cockream wants to emphasize to the public that his agency has never wanted to boot Uber from operating in the country. He just wants them to abide by a few of the agency’s rules, which the popular ridesharing company has indicated it’s not interested in. There is a dispute about whether the projects should be bonded, since legislators say there’s not enough funding to pay for the projects…

Hillsborough County PTC promises deregulation of some rules regarding Uber and Lyft

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

Having survived a proposal in the Legislature that would have prevented them from making any rule changes to regulate Uber and Lyft, Hillsborough County Public Transportation Commission executive director Kyle Cockream said today that he will soon be recommending the “deregulation of some of our rules that we have.” The two ride-sharing companies have been out of compliance with PTC regulations since they both began operating in the county over a year ago. Since that time, the PTC has held…

Hillsborough PTC antes up, adds high-powered lobbyists for Uber battle

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

Hillsborough County’s Public Transportation Commission is stepping up the legislative battle in Tallahassee against ridesharing technology firm Uber. On Monday, HCPTC head Kyle Cockream confirmed the retention of the high-powered and politically connected firm Capital City Consulting. CCC’s efforts are in addition the PTC’s main representatives, Corcoran & Johnston. The decision to expand the county lobbying team comes from a recently proposed bill that contains language that would negatively “impact the composition” of the PTC, according to Cockream. As an independent special district, a Special Act of the…
