Senate committee supports bill to move up 2012 legislative session

in Statewide by

Florida’s Senate Reapportionment committee unanimously agreed Tuesday to support a bill (which I track with LobbyTools) by Sen. Joe Negron, to move up the start of the 2012 legislative session to accommodate the once-a-decade redistricting process. The reason to start the 60-day session in January rather than in March when the state lawmakers normally begin the session is to give state and federal officials time to review any changes made to the state and federal district lines, Negron said. “This…

Did Rick Baker, Deveron Gibbons square off at Charlie Crist’s event on Saturday?

in Statewide/The Bay and the 'Burg by

Several sources have called to tell me of an, um, “heated discussion” this past weekened at Charlie Crist’s event at Ovation between former St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Baker and St. Petersburg College Board of Trustees member Deveron Gibbons. According to one account, Baker approached Gibbons and said something to the effect, ‘Are you happy you got your revenge?’ From there, Baker attempted to make nice with Gibbons, but the former mayoral candidate would have none of it, raising his voice…

The effervescent Laura Boehmer has resigned from her position as the City of St. Petersburg’s full-time lobbyist, less than five weeks after Mayor Bill Foster took office. According to my sources, Ms. Boehmer has agreed to take a position with uber lobbying firm Southern Strategies. “Laura has represented St. Petersburg very well in Tallahassee over the past several years, and we wish her well as she continues her career in legislative affairs with a private firm,” said Senior Administrator Dave…
