U.S. Senate tables turn against Florida Democrats

in Statewide/Top Headlines by

In an ironic reversal of fortune, a tough and ideological primary process is threatening to divide Democrats as they pursue swing Senate seats like that one abdicated by U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio in 2016, writes Alex Roarty in National Journal. In a quartet of key battlegrounds, Democrats are bracing for bitter primaries that party leaders worry will complicate their hopes of retaking a Senate majority. The latest showdown was set Tuesday, when a former top aide to Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf,…

Some big-time national lefties not sold on Alan Grayson for Senate

in 2017/Top Headlines by

Citing personal baggage and “divisive rhetoric,” national leaders in the progressive movement are abstaining from supporting U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson‘s campaign to leave his safe Democratic House seat to jump to the Senate, writes Andrea Drusch in National Journal. “Alan Grayson’s opening Senate salvo should have been the campaign of liberals’ dreams. In the first week of his campaign, the Florida House Democrat and longtime champion of liberal causes immediately pushed progressives’ favorite policies—and ripped into his moderate Democratic primary opponent, fellow…

Kendrick Meek’s fellow Florida Dems return Charles Rangel $$$

in Statewide by

The National Republican Senatorial Committee says House Democrats — including Florida’s Ron Klein and Suzanne Kosmas — have returned $378,000 of embattled Congressman Charles Rangel’s campaign contributions. But “despite this outpouring from his Democratic colleagues, for some reason Kendrick Meek continues to hang onto the $5,500 from his ethically-challenged contributor,” the committee shot today.
