Backlash over aerial spraying of the insecticide naled in South Beach is prompting other Florida residents to question how it’s used. Did Theresa LePore just say what I think she said?

in Peter/Top Headlines by

It was the lone comment on a story we posted. And it made my spine shudder. A local blogger in Palm Beach (his name is Fred Hadley, and he runs a community/political blog in Century Village) found an old story about Irv Slosberg allegedly stealing a voting machine right after the infamous Gore-Bush election/debacle. County staff witnessed it, and a cop was brought in to force the machine from his possession. Charges were never pressed. For those of you who…

Palm Beach County and the case of the missing voting machine

in Peter/Top Headlines by

It’s a cold case. It’s an old case. And it may not amount to a hill of beans. But now that Irv Slosberg is contemplating a run for the state Senate, local chatter about a 16-year old matter is making the rounds once again. We all remember the 2000 presidential election and the razor-thin victory by George W. Bush over Al Gore. Scott came to Florida Atlantic University’s Pine Jog Environmental Education…

The girls say they don’t need protection — many have already had sports injuries — and are willing to take the risk. Lexus Sheridan cracked her cheekbone playing lacrosse. Line drives in softball hit Haley Osborne in the face, twice. Brianna Hockman broke three fingers playing flag…

Florida Supreme Court says web-based florist must pay taxes

in Statewide/Top Headlines by

The Florida Supreme Court ruled that the state can impose a sales tax on a web-based florist for flowers sold to out-of-state customers and delivered outside of Florida. The Court on Thursday overturned an appeals court decision that said the Department of Revenue couldn’t collect taxes from American Business USA Corp.’s out-of-state sales. The Supreme Court said the Palm Beach County-based business has a physical presence in the state and does business within Florida and that’s enough of a tie…

in Apolitical/Top Headlines by

A Florida man with a tattoo of Florida on his face is facing burglary charges. The Palm Beach Post reported Wednesday that 25-year-old Johnathan Hewett is jailed without bail.
