Jeff Atwater up 38%-34% over Patrick Murphy in extremely early 2016 Florida Senate poll

in Top Headlines by

Yes, of course it’s early. Nobody is thinking about the 2016 election. Right? Well, if you’re reading this, you have to admit you sort of care. And while the complete field of candidates running for the Florida Senate is very, very incomplete at this time (and we still don’t know if Marco Rubio will run for the seat), there are three candidates whose names are being bandied about as being possible nominees at the moment, along with the one official major party…

Bill Day’s latest: Pam Bondi, Allen West for Senate?

in Statewide/Top Headlines by

When U.S. Rep. Patrick Murphy announced his intention to run for the U.S. Senate, he set off an unusual chain of events among Florida Democrats. First, speculation flourished over a potential Democratic primary, with a number of leading contenders, such as former Gov. Charlie Crist, as well as U.S. Reps. Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Alan Grayson. Since then, both Crist and Wasserman Schultz have bowed out. And the chatter is growing that Grayson will possibly enter the race to replace Marco Rubio, particularly…

Mitch Perry Report for 3.26.15 — How viable is Rubio’s plan to replace the ACA?

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

I wrote up several stories regarding polls in Florida yesterday, and in one of those stories I wrote briefly about Marco Rubio’s plan to replace Obamacare. As we all know, the GOP has been castigated for being nattering nabobs of negativism (to trot out that golden oldie written by Pat Buchanan and uttered by Spiro Agnew) when it comes to the Affordable Care Act; always criticizing, always (in the House) voting to repeal, but barely able to come up with…

Patrick Murphy takes aim at GOP House budget

in Top Headlines by

Newly minted U.S. Senate candidate Patrick Murphy fired a shot across the bow of the House Republican majority Wednesday, when he released a statement excoriating the priorities in the budget passed earlier this evening. “House Republicans have, once again, misplaced their priorities.  They’re turning their backs on seniors, working families, and critical infrastructure projects we need throughout Florida and the entire country,” said Murphy in the announcement. “There is no reason that we can’t combine fiscal responsibility with strengthening the middle…

New poll says Floridians DO want Jeb Bush & Marco Rubio to realize their presidential ambitions

in Top Headlines by

Yesterday a Public Policy Polling survey showed that a majority of Floridians wanted neither Jeb Bush nor Marco Rubio to run for president in 2016. That was so yesterday. Literally. A new poll released this morning from St. Leo University shows quite the opposite — 63 percent of Floridians want Bush to run for president and 58 percent say they want Rubio to do so as well. A Bush/Rubio matchup shows the former governor besting the current U.S. senator, leading 39-30 percent. The poll contains plenty of…
