Time offers ‘Ten Questions’ to Charlie Crist, like ‘Who’ll Remember the Tea Party in 20 Years?’

in Statewide by

Last year, Time offered its “Ten Questions” feature to Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, but the reader questions it selected were mostly hostile, panning his response to the State of the Union, asking if he looked like the geeky Kenneth the Page from “30 Rock,” and underlining the shakiness of the GOP: “Voters rejected the GOP in November. What changes do you think it needs to make in order to become relevant again?” This week, Time offered the same feature to Florida…

Former Florida Senate President W.D. Childers’ bribery conviction reversed

in Statewide by

A federal appeals court Tuesday reversed the bribery conviction of former Florida Senate President W.D. Childers, who was known as the Legislature’s “banty rooster” because of his feisty personality and short stature. A three-judge panel of the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta issued the 2-1 ruling. The majority found Childers’ trial judge erred by excluding evidence that could have impeached the credibility of the prosecution’s star witness. Will the BP oil spill sink Charlie Crist?

in Statewide by

This week, oil from BP’s Deepwater Horizon rig in the Gulf of Mexico is expected to hit the shores of Florida’s northwest Panhandle, greasing the Sunshine State’s pristine white-sand beaches in time for the summer tourist season. Already, hotels and restaurants are losing bookings for the coming weeks, though the extent of the BP disaster on Florida’s economy—not to mention its coastlines and the water off its shores—is still unclear. Leading the charge to assure Floridians and potential tourists that the state is open for…

Why Kendrick Meek needs to debate Jeff Greene

in Statewide by

Creative Loafing’s Mitch Perry lays out the case for why Kendrick Meek should debate Jeff Greene.  And soon. An excerpt: Meek needs to debate Greene and [Maurice] Ferre soon.  Why? Because he’s currently mired in third place, well behind Republican Marco Rubio and former Republican Charlie Crist in the battle to become the next U.S. senator from Florida.  And there’s no indication in any way that he’ll soon break out of that third-place finish come November. Meek’s biggest problem had…
