Marco Rubio raising money with Colorado’s Jane Norton, Penn’s Pat Toomey

in Statewide by

Colorado Senate candidate Jane Norton announced Wednesday that she plans to host a fundraiser with Florida Senate candidate Marco Rubio and Pennsylvania candidate Pat Toomey. Norton is locked in a close race for the GOP nomination with Weld County DA Ken Buck. A spokesman told the Denver Post that the event is an effort to bolster Norton’s credentials as “a conservative, surrounding herself with conservatives, and will govern as a conservative.” Buck, who had little name recognition before the campaign began,…

in Statewide by

Just seven of the 20 Republicans who asked for refunds from newly independent Gov. Charlie Crist today have any money sitting in his campaign coffers, campaign records show. One of the 20 who signed the letter, Gay Gaines of Palm Beach, hasn’t given to Crist in at least 15 years. She’s donated $2,400 this year to Crist’s GOP rival, Marco Rubio.  Continue reading here.

Don’t forget, Charlie Crist’s poll numbers have declined with D’s & I’s almost as bad as his support with the GOP

in Peter/Statewide by

Public Policy Polling reminds us that, while it’s his fall with Republicans that gets all the attention, but Charlie Crist’s poll numbers have declined almost as badly with Democrats and independents over the last year as they have within his own party. And that makes me doubt he would be successful in an independent Senate bid even if he did decide to make a run for it. From The Associated Press: Florida has a Tea Party and a tea party movement, and no, they are not the same thing. As tens of thousands of angry conservative voters began protesting big government and federal spending, Fred O’Neal decided to tap into that energy and create a state-recognized political party – the Tea Party. The party now has a candidate on the 2010 ballot to challenge Democratic U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson. But many tea party activists don’t agree with…

Florida Teachers agree: ‘No’ is answer

in Statewide by

From Mark Woods: This bill is about having “the best and brightest teachers” in our classrooms. That’s what Sen. John Thrasher, R-St. Augustine, keeps saying about the sweeping education reform which is scheduled for a floor vote Wednesday. Senate Bill 6 would tie half of a teacher’s pay to how his or her students perform on one end-of-year test. It would mean that during a five-year span, a teacher’s students would need to show gains on these yet-to-be-determined tests in…
