St. Pete City Council unanimously approves downtown waterfront master plan

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

St. Pete City Council unanimously approved a revised downtown waterfront master plan. Following a short presentation addressing earlier concerns with the plan Thursday, council members each agreed the plan had been revised to alleviate concerns expressed by the public. The approved plan does not include a downtown convention center or hotel. The downtown waterfront master plan seemed to be moving along without much contention until word of a private hotel and convention center near the Mahaffey Theater prompted members of…

Leaders of the St. Petersburg Yacht Club have some concerns about the city’s proposed downtown waterfront master plan. In a letter penned by Yacht Club Commodore Harvey Ford and signed also by Vice Commodore Richard Winning and Rear Commodore Robert Birkenstock, the group expresses concerns that the city may inadvertently be creating water hazards and encroaching on private property. in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

St. Pete City Council candidate Ed Montanari has raised more than $45,000, according to sources close to his campaign. The total so far comes from more than 175 contributors. Council is deadlocked on moving forward with a brokered agreement between Mayor Rick Kriseman and the Rays to lift that ban and allow them to consider…

For a blow-by-blow account, check out my colleague Janelle Irwin’s recount. While the Rays and the Council battle against each other, I’m going to take a look at one of the real culprits in this saga: baseball fans in the Tampa Bay area, or the lack of them. Depending on what happens tonight in Madison Square Garden,…

Rays stadium agreement gains one ‘yes;’ still doesn’t have enough support to pass

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

After nearly five hours of back and forth and sometimes in a circle debate, St. Pete Mayor Rick Kriseman has walked away from a City Council workshop with one more vote in favor of an agreement to let the Tampa Bay Rays look at stadium sites outside of St. Pete in Pinellas and Hillsborough counties. Council member Amy Foster switched her no on the memorandum of understanding from a “no” to a “yes.” “I agree this is not enough money,”…
