Officials say a St. Petersburg police officer accused of using excessive force and then lying about it has resigned. Police say Officer Andrew Cane attended a disciplinary meeting Monday and resigned before the Command Review Board could make a ruling. Two fellow officers reported that Cane threw a handcuffed suspect to the ground during an August arrest. Cane wrote in his incident report that the suspect was twisting and acting aggressively.
