Rays won’t get their first choice in search for a new stadium

in Sports/Top Headlines by

For Stuart Sternberg, finding a new stadium site for the Tampa Bay Rays hasn’t proven as easily as just identifying his preferred site. “We had some ideas on locations that just weren’t available, that I thought would have worked perfectly, but they’re off the table,” Sternberg said in Port Charlotte Thursday. “So we’re sort of moving down our list to Nos. 2, 3 and 4. It’s like starting pitchers, you have five of them and sometimes No. 4 is better…

The Tampa Bay Rays, considering a new home, have added Snug Harbor, a 39-acre plot of land on Gandy Boulevard, to their options. And although…

As Rays seek a new home, Marlins can tell them it doesn’t mean a panacea

in Sports/Top Headlines by

As the Tampa Bay Rays continue to look for a new home, there is a cautionary tale. If you pay attention to the Miami Marlins, it isn’t a cure-all. The Marlins, despite their new park, continue to struggle to gain a foothold in the state. They have the lowest revenues in the game, and their payroll is third to last (ahead of only Tampa Bay and Milwaukee). Miami is plagued with low attendance, and they don’t make much money off…
