Todd Wilcox focuses on national security as national strength

in 2017/Top Headlines by

Todd Wilcox, a Florida GOP candidate for U.S. Senate, told Sunshine Summit participants that his non-politician, non-lawyer background is a plus for seeking office. Primary voters need to ask “which candidate has real-world experience,” he said. “Let’s face it, we’re all fed up with career politicians,” Wilcox said, a seeming dig at fellow Republican and U.S. Rep. David Jolly, a lawyer, former lobbyist and longtime staffer to the late U.S. Rep. Bill Young of Pinellas County. Jolly was later elected to…

Mitch Perry Report for 11.11.15 — The return of Rand Paul to the GOP presidential race

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

The odds were stacked against him last night, and there were many who were writing him off before last night’s debate. And yet he had a breakthrough performance at the GOP’s 4th presidential debate in Milwaukee. Jeb Bush? No, Rand Paul. Paul’s been down so far this election cycle that the only stories you seem to read about him these days are when he’s going to quit and concentrate on being re-elected to the Senate in Kentucky. But for one…

Jeff Atwater is still not running for U.S. Senate

in 2017/Top Headlines by

After it became clear Marco Rubio wasn’t running for re-election, Florida Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater immediately became the odds-on favorite Republican to run for the to-be-vacant U.S. Senate seat. Everything changed, though, after the CFO stunned the Florida political world in April when he said he wouldn’t run for the office. Since then, four lesser-known Republicans: U.S. Reps. David Jolly and Ron DeSantis, Lt. Gov. Carlos Lopez-Cantera, and former CIA contractor Todd Wilcox have all entered the campaign. Recently there…

Donald Trump, the solid front-runner in Florida and nationally in the GOP presidential race, will be the sixth and final candidate to speak at the Republican Party of Florida’s Sunshine Summit taking place Nov. 13-14 at Rosen Shingle Creek in Orlando. Twelve candidates in all will participate in the event, a fundraiser for the RPOF and one that looked in danger of being a bust just a few weeks ago, when only native sons Marco Rubio and Jeb Bush had committed to participating. Rubio will be the first…

David Jolly focused on how to change Washington

in 2017/Top Headlines by

In his short year-and-a-half stint serving as a congressman in Washington, David Jolly has on occasion voted against the majority of his party because of what he says is typical Washington dishonesty. While that attitude works in representing his moderate Pinellas County district, it’s a danger in running in a Republican primary election for Senate, something he appears to be keenly aware of. Take for example, his vote last week against supporting a fourth committee in the House to investigate…
