Republican Peter Nehr endorsed by Pinellas’ teachers

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

Republican state Rep. Peter Nehr has scored a major endorsement coup in his re-election campaign for House District 48, earning the endorsements of the Florida Education Association and the Pinellas Classroom Teachers Association.  The endorsement letter is clear why the teachers are backing Nehr over Democrat Tom McKone, who now has to wonder where he can find support for his campaign: This endorsement is in recognition of your steadfastness in opposing Senate Bill 6, which failed to consider the views…

Mitch Kates loses his shit

in Peter by

Is anyone else beginning to think that local Democratic political consultant Mitch Kates is, to put it succinctly, losing his shit? The Bay Buzz writes today about a letter Kates wrote to Eric Forcade, a very minor Tea Party candidate who dropped out of the race to challenge incumbent Congressman Bill Young: “…calling him ‘a coward, hypocrite and referring to Forcade, a Pinellas sheriff’s officer, as “you and your crazy 9-12ers” and “nut-ball demigod hero Glenn Beck.” Okay, so maybe Kates is…

Democrat Tom McKone raises just $2,289 last quarter

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

Looks like Tom McKone not-so-insurgent bid against Peter Nehr is about over, especially since Nehr is one of the few Republicans standing up for the teachers in the debate over SB 6.  McKone raised a paltry $2,289 last quarter and spent $2,193.  To date, McKone has raised $16,059 and spent $10,145.

Peter Nehr maintains healthy lead over Tom McKone

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

According to exclusive poll results obtained by this blog, Republican incumbent Peter Nehr holds a healthy 16 point lead over Democratic challenger Tom McKone.  McKone trails Nehr 44% – 28% according to this poll taken on March 17 & 18  and has a margin of error of 4.9%.  Keep in mind, this is not my poll, so I cannot verify the polls’ results, but my source for this information is from the same source which provided the spot-on polling data during the St. Petersburg Mayoral Race.  Nehr…

Local fire chief levels verbal complaint against H-48 candidate Tom McKone

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

East Lake’s fire chief leveled a verbal harassment complaint against an East Lake Fire District commissioner this week. He said the harassment occurred during a conversation about how military reserve members in the Fire Department should be paid when they’re on active military duty. “I have just been verbally abused by Chairman Tom McKone via cell phone,” Fire Chief Jeff Malzone wrote in an e-mail to commissioners Tuesday. “I demand that this board take the proper course of action.” For…

Local newspaper balks at publishing Mitch Kates’ ‘press release’ for H-48 candidate Tom McKone

in Peter/The Bay and the 'Burg by

An anonymous source sent me a series of e-mails between political consultant Mitch Kates and Patrick Wheeler, the publisher of the East Lake Blister. At first glance, these e-mails look like small potatoes, but taken together they reinforce some of the perceptions about how Kates operates; how he works to gain earned media for his clients — a tactic that worked for Kevin Beckner, but backfired for Scott Wagman. It remains to be seen how Kates’ efforts will work for…
