It has not been a calm week at the University of Florida.
Only a day after starting quarterback Will Grier was suspended for taking a supplement that contained a performance-enhancing drug, Florida player Deiondre Porter was suspended for shooting toward his girlfriend and putting a handgun to her head.
The girlfriend, who is 10 weeks pregnant, denies having a relationship with Porter’s teammate. She and Porter had been dating since 2013.
According to the report, the girlfriend saw Porter raise his arm and fire the handgun in her direction. Police removed a bullet from the wall where she was leaning that matches a .45 handgun they found in Porter’s possession.
Porter attended Jefferson High School in Tampa.
“He’s no longer with the football team,’’ Florida coach Jim McElwain said. “He’s suspended indefinitely for obviously a choice. It’s his choice not to be with us. It’s one of those things that we obviously don’t condone.’’
Porter played quarterback at Jefferson and led all Florida high school players with 4,698 total yards and 53 touchdowns in 2013.
