Think your one vote doesn’t count? Election yesterday in Treasure Island ended in tie

Treasure Island voters weighed in Tuesday on five referendum questions, four of which deal with downtown redevelopment — and one still hasn’t been decided.

Referendum question No. 3, which would allow density of up to 60 hotel or motel rooms per acre in the city’s new downtown redevelopment district, ended in a dead heat. There were 762 votes in favor and 762 opposed, according to unofficial results from the Pinellas Supervisor of Elections.

The Pinellas County Canvassing Board will meet at 9 a.m. Friday to conduct a recount and to certify the results, elections spokesperson Nancy Whitlock said.

Officials will canvass provisional ballots and conduct a manual recount if required, Whitlock said.
