Children should not have to defend themselves from bullies physically in order to be safe at school, says Julie Delegal, but when adults do not help, kids need to protect themselves. Come on, grownups, she adds, we can do better than this.

The next time a competitive parent approaches with a story about their overachieving child who has done so much, Catherine Durkin Robinson suggests just smiling and say, “Enough about our kids, how are you? Tell me about your own accomplishments this past school year. What have YOU done lately?”
