Today is the deadline for protesters and others planning rallies during the Republican National Convention to reserve a city park, reports Kevin Wiatrowski of the Tampa Tribune.
Tampa officials set 5 p.m. as the cut off for receiving requests to use the city’s parks. Later this week, city staff will sort through the requests and allocate space.
In the case there are several groups seeking to use the same parks, the city plans to hold a lottery on Friday in the City Council chambers.
So far, though, the city has gotten only a trickle of permit applications where it had been expecting a flood.
“The response so far has been underwhelming,” said Mauricio Rodriguez, an assistant city attorney involved in RNC planning.
