As trade deadline passes, Lightning holds onto Jonathan Drouin

in Sports/Top Headlines by

Jonathan Drouin continues to hold out, and the Tampa Bay Lightning continues to hold on.

If Drouin was hoping that the end of his days with the Lightning would come to a close during Monday’s NHL Trading Deadline, he was disappointing. Despite as many as 10 teams interested, according to reports, the Lightning chose not to move him.

“Any opportunity I was talking about in the last couple of months were for for things that wouldn’t help us between now and end of playoffs,” general manager Steve Yzerman said. “It’s not going to help me now, if it’s something I couldn’t pass up, the feeling was to keep my options over with.”

Drouin figured to be a hard player to trade. He was a high draft pick, but he hasn’t lived up to the price so far. Once he walked out of the Lightning, his entitlement and his game-condition were both issues.

Yzerman said that if Drouin wanted to return to Syracuse “the door was wide open.”
