State Rep. Trudi Williams has decided to drop out of a race for a Southwest Florida Senate seat, The News-Press reported Friday. Williams’ exodus ends a potential primary fight against incumbent Sen. Lizbeth Benacquisto in the newly drawn District 30. Williams told the Fort Myers-based newspaper that she wants to focus on her family and her engineering firm, saying “circumstances have convinced me this is not the right time for me to continue in public service.” Williams, who was first elected in 2004, will have to leave her House seat after this fall’s elections because of term limits.
