The USF Bulls, off to a bad start to their basketball season, finally discovered their shooting touch Wednesday night.
The Bulls had the fourth-best shooting night in school history, and its highest in 11 seasons, on its way to an 88-75 victory over Jacksonville. USF, ranked as the third-worst three-point team in America coming into the game was 22.7 percent, more than doubled its usual average.
USF hit 63.3 percent of its field goals and 56.2 percent of its three pointers.
Jahmal McMurray scored 22 points for the Bulls to lead five players into double figures. Chris Perry had 16, Nehemias Morillo scored 14 and Jaleel Cousins and Angel Nunez each had 13.
“I thought we did a really good job of finding the open man,” said head coach Orlando Antigua. “Something we’ve talked about in practice is not taking a good shot, but taking a great shot and finding the open guy. I thought in the NC State game we did that, but got a little gun shy and didn’t take those opportunities when they were open. Today I thought we were a little looser, took those shots and were able to make them.”
USF plays host to UAB on Saturday.
