TaxWatch President Dominic Calabro sounded the turkey call and unveiled the group’s annual list of budget turkeys on Friday. Turkeys are spending items typically added to the state budget in the closing moments of the legislative session without proper public review and debate, or items that don’t have statewide benefit. This year’s turkey list includes more than $150 million worth of projects and another $20 million that deserve a closer look by Gov. Rick Scott. Last year, Scott used his line-item veto to eliminate more than 90 percent of the turkeys identified on TaxWatch’s report.
