One of the casualties in the battle between Florida Democratic Party chair Allison Tant and Rep. Darryl Rouson is House campaigns finance director Jeff Ryan, who was fired after it was discovered he and political director Chris Mitchell helped Rouson create a special fundraising committee without Tant’s knowledge.
Ryan, who worked for the party for more than a decade after serving under Gov. Lawton Chiles, is a popular figure in Democratic circles — especially among the same House members who ousted Rouson. So it’s not much of a surprise to read a report that he might be given a second chance with the FDP.
After the vote to depose Rouson, House Democrats voted to direct current leader Perry Thurston to address the matter with Tant, although the Buzz reports that the caucus “stopped short of demanding he get his job.”
It will be interesting to see whether there is a second act in Florida Democratic politics for Ryan.
