Wish for Our Heroes 5K to kick off St. Pete Grand Prix

Commemorating the 2014 Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg launch this weekend, a full field of runners can experience a drivers-seat view of the course with the Wish for Our Heroes 5K run.

Beginning at 6:15 p.m., Wish for Our Heroes, presented by Modern Business Associates, starts at Fifth Ave. NE near Vinoy Park, before proceeding west to Bayshore Dr., and moving south to the track entry at Central Ave.

The field then loops counter-clockwise, exiting on Bayshore Dr. at Central Ave. northbound, before moving east on Fifth Ave. NE returning to the finish line at Vinoy Park.

To keep the track clear for racers, parking restrictions will be in place throughout the downtown area for both the 5K and the Grand Prix. Residents and visitors must obey all posted signage.

Those holding Residential Parking Permits must move vehicles temporarily until the event conclusion, so to avoid receiving citations or towing. Residential Parking Permits do not exempt permit holders from special events.

Proceeds of the 5K will benefit Wish for Our Heroes, a national charity dedicated to “Helping Heroes Battle Hardships” by granting wishes to military members and their families. A volunteer-based organization, WFOH gives every dollar directly to assist the troops. Since 2009, over 1,300 wishes have been granted.
