Senator Jeff Brandes holds onto seat in contentious race against Judithanne McLauclan

State Senator Jeff Brandes took his opponent to the woodshed. Brandes has pulled in more than 57 percent of the vote with McLauchlan bringing in 43 percent. The race between the incumbent Republican and the aspiring Democrat saw some of the highest levels of outside funding of any statewide contest. Brandes pulled in more than $815,000. Dunedin Mayor Dave Eggers pulls landslide Pinellas County Commission victory

Dunedin Mayor Dave Eggers will change jobs. In what was an expected landslide victory, Eggers defeated challengers Mark Weinkrantz, Carl Folkman and Marcus Harrison. Eggers collected 61 percent of the vote. Weinkrantz was Eggers’ closest challenger. He has 33 percent of the vote. Voter turnout just an hour before the polls closed in Pinellas County was already higher than it was in the last midterm election. Just over 311,000 Pinellas voters cast a ballot in 2010 when Alex Sink was running against Rick Scott. As of 5:40 p.m. today, about 333,000 ballots have been cast.
