Bright House Networks (BHN) says it will broadcast all 16 Tampa Bay Rowdies home games for the 2016 season.
The agreement between the Rowdies and BHN says coverage will start with the season opener April 2, and home games will air exclusively on Bright House Sports Network. BHN, which serves about 2.5 million homes, is the sixth-largest owner and operator of cable systems in the U.S. and the second largest in Florida.
“Bright House Sports Network is the perfect partner to share the renewed energy and excitement surrounding the Tampa Bay Rowdies,” Rowdies owner Bill Edwards said in a statement. “Soccer is the fastest growing sport in America, with millions of kids playing across the country and tens of thousands playing right here Central Florida. With Bright House Networks we will be able to showcase our attack-minded style of play to soccer enthusiasts and families around the state.”
The team said more than 85,000 fans came out to Al Lang Stadium to see the Rowdies in 2015. With the new partnership, Rowdies soccer will now be available in homes in the St. Petersburg/Tampa/ Clearwater and Orlando/Daytona/Melbourne areas.
In addition to all 16 home matches, Bright Houses Sports Network will show pre- and postgame shows live and in high definition (HD). Events can be seen exclusively on Bright House Networks HD channel 1147 and in standard definition on channel 47. Replays of the game will also be telecast the following Sunday at 2 p.m.
“Bill Edwards has done an outstanding job with the franchise, building excitement and turning ‘Soccer Saturdays’ into must-see events in downtown St. Petersburg,” said Chris Jadick, director of Bright House Sports Network. “We at Bright House see a great future for the franchise, and we proudly look forward to being a part of it.”
