It’s not the party, it’s the after-party

in Peter/The Bay and the 'Burg by

Campaign after-parties are for me what weddings are for most other people…the best place to get laid without having to pay. Here’s the rundown of where the candidates will be: Jamie Bennett is partying at home with his wonderful wife, who yesterday was classy enough to flick Barry Edwards the middle finger while waving signs. Classy, Aimee, classy. In one of the more interesting cases of downstairs-upstairs, Kathleen Ford will be celebrating at Red Mesa Cantina, while Deveron Gibbons goes…

The Worst Election Ever comes to an end

in Peter/The Bay and the 'Burg by

The last coherent thing my father said before he passed three years ago was the famous line from TS Eliot’s Hollow Men: This is the way the world ends This is the way the world ends This is the way the world ends Not with a bang but a whimper. But what do you say when something was a whimper all along? The St. Petersburg Mayoral Race comes to its first conclusion on Tuesday and not with a bang but…

For your consideration: Saint Petersblog 2.0 for Best of the Bay’s Best Local Blog

in Peter/The Bay and the 'Burg by

VOTE HERE FOR SAINT PETERSBLOG FOR BEST LOCAL BLOG. As a candidate for Creative Loafing’s Best of the Bay’s Best Local Troublemaker award, I forgot to think about how Tampa-dominated these awards can be. How else can you explain Joe Redner leading in this category. Five, ten years ago, sure. But what did Redner do this year to deserve this recognition? Almost everyone else on the Readers’ Poll for Best Local Troublemaker makes their trouble in Tampa. What basically has…

Larry Williams’ final TV spot

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

So much for the rule of not ending on a negative… Larry Williams’ TV commercials have been relatively well-produced. Relatively being the operative word. The ads are a little shaky, they zoom in and out quickly, the on-screen text is sloppy, but overall, these spots are more effective than the spots Adam Goodman produced for Deveron Gibbons’ campaign, but they are not as powerful as Bill Foster’s commercial. And Pam Williams looks a lot better in person than she did…

GOTV mailpieces from Scott Wagman, Bill Foster

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

If your mailbox is like mine, it’s probably stuffed like a Christmas turkey with mail from candidates looking to Get Out the Vote. Here are the GOTV pieces from Scott Wagman and Bill Foster: No way, Equality Florida and the Stonewall Democrats and Linda Lerner…who’d have thunk it? Nice airbrushing of that shiny dome, Wags. Like so much of his campaign, very earnest, but a little underwhelming, if not also graphically sloppy. Basically, these two mailpieces represent about $10,000 being…

Scott Wagman, the Half-Million Dollar Man loaned, err, raised $271K for the primary

in Peter/The Bay and the 'Burg by

Final fundraising numbers for the primary in the St. Petersburg Mayoral Race: Jamie Bennett reported $1,000 in contributions. For the primary he raised $47,683. About $5OK less than what he would have raised had he still had me around. Scott Wagman raises $3,735.01 and loans his campaign $30,000 (now $170,000 all together). For the primary he raised a total of $271,635. You may remember Larry and Mitch bragging about their guy raisin’ $500K for this race. Fellas, hate to tell…
