Edward Graziano offers $13.06 gift card to Westshore Pizza to have his wife murdered

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

I could care less about Hulk Hogan, his wife or their nickle-dick son. So I didn’t know who Edward Graziano was when I read of his arrest today for attempting to hire someone to murder his wife. And I still don’t care who he is, but what struck me is that he offerred a $13.06 gift card to Westshore Pizza as part of the deal to have his wife murdered. Now, I’ve eaten at Westshore Pizza. I frequently ordered their Chef’s…

Will Michaels passes on District 5 run

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

Will Michaels, a well-liked, well-respected activist in St. Petersburg, has decided not to run for the City Council seat being vacated by Jamie Bennett. “Kathy and I have given it a great deal of consideration and have decided this is not a good fit for me at this time. I will continue to participate in voluntary community activities such as CONA, the Bahama Shores Neighborhood Association, Saint Petersburg Preservation, the Woodson Museum, and the St. Petersburg Museum of History.”

My latest op-ed in the Tallahassee Democrat

in Peter/The Bay and the 'Burg by

Two of my passions are gourmet food and politics. When I’m not walking door-to-door for a candidate, I am in front of a stove, near a wine bin or doing something otherwise epicurean. So an event I recently attended was a real McFlurry, a seemingly contradictory juxtaposition that comes out wonderfully by the time you’re finished.I was invited to a campaign fundraiser with a theme of “Cooking with the Candidate” during which a five-course meal was prepared by a master…

But in mid January candidates started hearing from residents who had ballots and were frustrated that they had seen no information about the people running for office. Candidates scrambled to try to connect with those voters, and…

Monday Mayoral Wrap-up

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

That loud swooshing sound you hear is all of the oxygen being taken in this week before late-entry candidates Bill Foster and Kathleen Ford elbow their way into the mayoral conversation. In my analysis, there’s only room for one of these two candidates in the general election, although that doesn’t mean they should fight amongst themselves. In fact, I think that’s the last thing you’ll see out of these two. In their sights has to be quasi-establishment candidates Jamie Bennett and…

Jamie Bennett: Mayor needs to speak up on BayWalk

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

City Council member Jamie Bennett said today much of the uncertainty surrounding BayWalk can be chalked up to Mayor Rick Baker’s low-key approach to discussing the faltering downtown attraction. In his last year he needs to be out there communicating, just like the police chief,” said Bennett, referring to the council’s recent demand that Police Chief Chuck Harmon show his face in public more. “He’s the mayor.” Bennett, who is running for mayor, said he told Baker recently that he needs…
