A group hoping to stop Hillsborough County from moving a Confederate monument from Tampa to a Brandon cemetery is attempting to prove legal standing in a challenge to the statue’s removal. Save Southern Heritage, Veterans’ Monument of America and five other individuals filed a 45-page memorandum Monday to Hillsborough Circuit Judge Rex Barbas.

A former state lawmaker was convicted Thursday of misusing campaign funds. Dwayne L. Taylor, 49, was found guilty in federal court on all nine counts of wire fraud for using campaign contributions to pay for personal items that ranged from a wedding at the Waldorf Astoria in New York to a meal at McDonald’s, the Daytona Beach News-Journal reported.
