The lack of an opponent is no reason for the lack of progress. Which is why Luke Del Rio, Gator quarterback, is looking to improve his game this week.
Del Rio had missed the previous two games, and showed some rust in his return against Missouri. He threw three interceptions and others that could have been picked off.
“I played terrible,” Del Rio told the Gainesville Sun. “I didn’t take care of the ball. It’s my responsibility to take care of the ball.”
Del Rio is 96th in the country in passing yardage.
“I thought Luke was a little off today, obviously,” Florida coach Jim McElwain said. “(He) missed a couple reads. The turnovers were something that we’ve got to get corrected.”
Del Rio said he needs to do a better job in the coming weeks when the Gators play Georgia and FSU.
“I think I need to do a better job at leading guys and maintaining positivity even when things do go wrong,” Del Rio said, “and it’s not easy but this is the reality of it. We can either sulk or you can say ‘OK, we’re going to get the next play.’”
