Happy Fourth of July from Port Jefferson. It was a year ago today that I “left” Parkshore Grill. It was also a year ago today that Jenny and I spent our first real night together, after six weeks of sneaking around. A year ago today I would have never thought, if not dreamed, I would be in Port Jefferson, New York, for the Fourth of July. As it is, I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. There’s something very cool going on between Kim and I and can’t wait to see where that leads. And while I find myself looking for a job, I am optimistic I’ll find something, if for no other reason than Craig’s List is overrun with posts looking for waitstaff. Evidently, Summer is the season on Long Island and I’m ready to make the most of it. Kim can hook me up at La Plage, if I want, but I’m really not sure I want to work there yet. The food is rated the second best on the entire island, but do I really want to work where my girlfriend worked for seven years? Isn’t that what I learned a year ago to the day…to not, um, shit where you eat? Happy 4th! I’m off to Aunt Kathy’s for a family gathering.
For a new Key West resident, Irma was her welcome-to-town
Prudence Duchene will never forget the day she moved to Key West. It was Aug. 30
