Lightning in scoring slump after being shut out for second straight game

in Sports/Top Headlines by

Suddenly, the high-scoring Tampa Bay Lightning cannot buy a goal.

The Lightning was shut out for the second straight game Tuesday night, dropping a 2-0 game to the St. Louis Blues. Coupled with Saturday’s 1-0 loss to Chicago, it has been a long time since the Lightning lit a lamp.

The Lightning was shut out only one time all of last year.

St. Louis goaltender Jake Allen stopped all 26 shots he faced. In all, Tampa Bay has 47 shots in its last two games without scoring. The Lighting’s Ben Bishop allowed one goal in 22 shots.

Scott Gomez scored the only goal that the Blues would need in the first period, although Troy Brouwer scored an empty-netter with 41 seconds to play. The closest the Lightning could come to scoring was when Steven Stamkos hit a post in the second period.

The Lightning now returns home to play Colorado on Thursday night.
