Merch parties stoke fun even before Super Bowl 50 begins

in Sports/Top Headlines by

The Super Bowl is a magnet for athletes, celebrities and companies looking to woo them with their products. The easiest way to connect with potential customers?

Throw a party.

At the Style Lounge being hosted by New Era, visitors can have some fun at the bar, grab a comfy seat or customize their own Bose headphones. Levi’s has a room where guests can receive a jacket, shirt and jeans all personalized. Another room allows athletes to be sized by scanner in just seven seconds while wearing only their underwear. Acustom Apparel then keeps the measurements – specific to each bicep, thigh and arm length – allowing the athletes to design their own suits and casual wear and order online.

“The average athlete has a very athletic body,” said Jamal Motlagh, CEO and founder of Accustom Apparel. “Football players might have big thighs and broad chests. It’s tough for them to find clothing off the rack that fits.'”

The Style Lounge opened Thursday and is open again Friday. A big draw may be an outdoor Lip Synch Battle stage, borrowing from the very popular TV show. Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski, Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown and even Tim Tebow were among those scheduled to attend and compete on a stage with a great view of downtown San Francisco.

Buffalo quarterback Tyrod Taylor got an early look at the lounge and was impressed.

“It’s awesome,” Taylor said. “They have it decked out pretty nicely.”
