Seven months after making him their highest-paid player, the Orlando Magic have traded away forward Tobias Harris.
The Magic shipped Harris to the Detroit Pistons for Brandon Jennings and Eran Ilyosova, a pair of players who do not figure into the team’s long-term goals. The move, however, along with the possible trade of Channing Frye, is to free up cap space for the possible pursuit of free agents.
Magic general manager Rob Hennigan said that the core of his team – Victor Oladipo, Elfrid Payton, Evan Fournier and Nik Vucevic, will not be traded
The Pistons will be Harris’ third team in five seasons.
“I guess we felt like we needed to shuffle the deck a little bit,” Hennigan said. “We needed to try and shake things up. Not a lot, but we felt like the roster needed to be balanced in certain ways. And I don’t think it’s a secret that we’ve been looking for more veteran stability on the roster. We felt like this move was a decision that will help give us that added experience.”
