No changes in CFP rankings top 5; Gators No. 8, FSU 14th

The College Football Playoff rankings show no changes among the top 5 teams this week. Clemson, Alabama, Ohio State and Notre Dame would be eligible to play for the national championship if the season was over today. Iowa remained at No. 5, but the Oklahoma State Cowboys moved into No. 6 position, despite a difficult win over heavy underdog Iowa State on Saturday.

Florida has moved into the top 10 following Saturday’s win over South Carolina. The Gators now hold the No. 8 position. Should they run the table and win the SEC Championship, Florida would have a legitimate claim on one of the top four spots.

Florida State is 14th, up two spots from last week. With their title hopes gone this year, the Seminoles can only hope to win their final two games and hope for a major bowl bid.

Clemson is heavily favored in their final two games against Wake Forest and South Carolina. Their biggest stumbling block to a spot in the playoffs is the ACC Championship Game, where they are expected to play No. 17 North Carolina.

Alabama has Charleston Southern and will travel to Auburn to face the Tigers in the Iron Bowl to conclude the season. The Florida Gators will look to thwart Alabama in the SEC Championship Game and make their own case for a playoff spot if they can beat Florida Atlantic and FSU at home in their final two games.

Ohio State has No. 9 Michigan State at home and No. 12 Michigan on the road to conclude the season. If the Buckeyes make it to the Big 10 Championship Game, No. 5 Iowa likely awaits.

Notre Dame has Boston College at home and No. 11 Stanford on the road to conclude their season.

Iowa has Purdue at home and at Nebraska while Oklahoma State has No. 10 Baylor this week and ends the regular season at home against No. 7 Oklahoma. The Sooners host No. 18 TCU this week.

By the end of the regular season, all of this week’s current top four teams could be in the playoffs, or none of them. It will be a great two weeks of college football.
