Red Sox make former Rays’ pitcher David Price a wealthy man

in Sports/Top Headlines by

Would you pay a million dollars a start for David Price?

The Boston Red Sox would, evidently.

The Red Sox just signed free agent Price to a seven-year, $217 million contract, which translates into $31 million a year. Price has started 93 games over the last three seasons, which would make his pay roughly $1 million per start. It’s a lot of money for a lot of fastballs.

Over those three years, Price has won 43 games in the regular season. In the playoffs, lifetime, he is 2-7 with a 5.12 ERA. But Price is a five-time all-star and former Cy Young winner.

Price is the highest paid ex-Tampa Bay Ray on the market. He made $14 million a year in 2014, his last year with the Rays. His salary jumped to $19,750,000 last year.
