Dan Gelber the Legislator vs. Dan Gelber the Candidate

in Statewide by

Dan Gelber is everything a progressive Democrat could want in a candidate.  Ideologically, Senator Gelber has a proven track record of fighting for causes important to both liberal and moderate wings of the party.  Personally, the man is simply impressive, with a distinguished resume and a dignified, but welcoming disposition that just radiates a sense of gravitas. I had the opportunity to speak with Senator Gelber last Thursday when he was in St. Petersburg and I immediately remembered why we…

As oil gushed, BP quickly hired lawyers, scientists and experts to fight lawsuits

in Uncategorized by

Marc Caputo reports: In the immediate aftermath of the Deepwater Horizon disaster, BP publicly touted its expert oil cleanup response, but it quietly girded for a legal fight that could soon embroil hundreds of attorneys, span five states and last more than a decade. It’s just business, nothing personal: Dave Aronberg fires again at Dan Gelber over connection to BP, but says ‘he’s not angry’

In the latest e-mail from Dave Aronberg, he cotinues his criticism of when and why his opponent Dan Gelber resigned from the law firm soon to represent BP: In May, while BP’s oil surged toward our pristine beaches, BP hired my opponent’s law firm to defend the company. Crist said the additional funds were needed for advertising the state’s tourism industry, which has been negatively impacted by the oil spill. Late week, oil began washing ashore on the Florida Panhandle and with it the pressure has increased on Crist to take a more active role.  Hurricane Alex is…

Dan Gelber says he quit law firm ‘last Thursday’ so why is resignation letter effective in ‘early July’?

in Statewide by

I guess at some point every Democrat is going to have to make a decision about who to support for attorney general.  Dave Aronberg or Dan Gelber?  ‘Cause you can’t vote for both, as much as we’d all like to. I haven’t fully made up my mind yet.  I want to hear what Gelber has to say tomorrow night at Bella Brava. But in the meantime, what troubles me — and many other Democrats — is the controversy over Gelber’s…
