But this nomination should not be viewed as a mea culpa by the voters; Big Whiskey was clearly good enough on its own merit to be nominated, and not out of some pity vote. This is…

DMB’s Big Whiskey goes platinum

in Apolitical by

From Ants Marching: Dave Matthews Band Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King is officially Platinum. It took a bit longer than the previous album, Stand Up, to reach the million sales plateau, but that’s not exactly a measure of its success. ATL Journal-Constitution on ‘Big Whiskey’

in Apolitical by

It’s a fitting start to a heartfelt tribute: the Dave Matthews Band’s new album opens with a minute of noodling saxophone from horn player LeRoi Moore, who died last August after an ATV accident. Moore’s death shocked his bandmates into a sudden sense of urgency: The group had spent nearly 18 months tinkering with ideas for a follow-up to its 2005 album, ā€œStand Up,ā€ when Moore died. The surviving musicians quickly finished ā€œBig Whiskey and the GrooGrux King,ā€ and it’s…
