5 things I think about today’s St. Petersburg Times

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

“Who is Sandra Gadsden?” was the invariable response I received last evening from each person I asked if they knew who Sandra Gadsden is. I was at a fundraising reception chock full of political operatives and their handsome wives.  Each of these people recognized the names of  Adam Smith or Aaron Sharockman or David DeCamp.  Some even recognized John Frank’s name.  But not one person — and this is a room full of people who make St. Petersburg move –…

5 things I think I think about today’s St. Petersburg Times

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

Surprise, the Times‘ editorial board likes Barack Obama’s nomination Solicitor General Elena Kagan to the U.S. Supreme Court.  No doubt this editorial was written by Robyn Blumner who, in Kagan, must see an ideological soul mate, in that is-she-straight-or-not sort of way. Sure to draw the ire of the freeloading public is a proposal, reported by David DeCamp, to charge $8 per car load to enter Fort DeSoto park, nationally popular for its beach.  It’s now free after paying a separate…

Oh no, what’s Neil Brickfield gonna do? Charter Review Commission kills County Mayor proposal

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

From David DeCamp: The Charter Review Commission killed a proposal Monday night to ask voters to create a Pinellas County mayor this fall. Safety Harbor Mayor Andy Steingold, a panel member, and other mayors supported a push to replace the county administrator, who is now hired by the County Commission, with a county mayor elected by voters. But a 9-3 majority decided against the dramatic step. The charter panel has the power to put questions on the ballot.

How I broke the story about Goliath Davis’ stop for suspicion of DUI

in Peter/The Bay and the 'Burg by

Since Thursday, when I first broke the story of Deputy Mayor Goilath Davis being stopped by the Gulfport Police Department in the early morning of December 15, 2009, for suspicion of DUI, I have been inundated for answers to questions as to how I, a singular writer and blogger, broke a story of this magnitutde. How did I scoop the St. Petersburg Times?  Still others wanted to know what my motivation was for investigating the story?  Some wished to know if I had a…
